Wave FCU Sponsors Toll Gate HS 18th and Pilgrim HS 6th FinEd Fair

More than 200 students from Toll Gate High School and Pilgrim High School in Warwick, Rhode Island, participated in Wave Federal Credit Union’s CU 4 Reality™ Financial Education Fairs, held March 27 and April 14, 2026, at each respective school.

The events drew participation from a broad group of community leaders and public officials, including the Mayor, representatives from the Office of the General Treasurer, State Senate, the School Committee, Superintendent of Schools, school administrators, and other invited guests. The Honorable Frank Picozzi, Mayor of the City of Warwick, presented a proclamation at each fair officially recognizing Financial Literacy Day in Warwick.

As part of the 2025–2026 academic year, Wave Federal Credit Union also sponsored Winter Fairs at both schools. David Dupéré, President and CEO of Wave Federal Credit Union, noted that the organization is proud to offer the CU 4 Reality™ program across two semesters at each school. He emphasized that the program aligns with Rhode Island’s financial literacy legislation (RIGL 16-22-13), which requires students to demonstrate proficiency in financial literacy prior to graduation. The initiative reinforces classroom instruction while helping schools meet this requirement.

Throughout the school year, credit union representatives visited classrooms monthly during each semester, delivering presentations designed to strengthen students’ understanding of personal finance. These sessions focused on equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to manage financial responsibilities and navigate real-world lifestyle decisions.

Sponsored by Wave Federal Credit Union, the CU 4 Reality™ Financial Education Fair serves as the program’s culminating experience. During the fair, students participate in a hands-on budgeting simulation that mirrors real-life financial decision-making. Based on a chosen career and corresponding monthly income, students make spending choices similar to those faced by young adults.

The fair also connects students with professionals from a range of local businesses and industries, allowing them to apply what they have learned in a practical setting. Participating organizations included the Community College of Rhode Island, DeGiulio Insurance Group, LLC, Generations Financial Strategies LLC, Massey and Associates, Inc., Premier Home Realty, LLC, RISLA College Planning Center, Stop & Shop, Tasca Chrysler Jeep Dodge RAM Fiat, and others. Through these interactions, students gained a deeper appreciation for budgeting, financial planning, and making informed purchasing decisions.
