An engaging discussion focused on identifying, preventing, and responding to financial scams was held at the Stoneham Senior Center on Friday, March 27, 2026.

The Fraud Awareness Discussion and lunch, hosted by Stoneham M E Federal Credit Union, offered attendees a chance to hear expert insights from Retired Police Chief Michael Lyle. Chief Lyle shared guidance on recognizing common scams, spotting red flags in suspicious communications, and the first steps to take if victimized.

“Within our industry, we are seeing increasingly sophisticated scams that impact older adults and result in billions of dollars in losses each year nationwide,” said President and CEO Ann Marie Waugh. “As a trusted credit union, we are committed to our members’ security and financial well-being and feel a responsibility to raise awareness and provide people with tools to protect their personal and financial information.  We encourage any community organization to reach out if they’re interested in having the credit union bring this program to their group.”
