The Southern Massachusetts Chapter of Credit Unions held its Collections Roundtable on October 7 at the Fireside Grille in Middleboro, MA.
Panelists Jason Bouchard (Greenwood Credit Union), Drew Courtemanche (Millbury Credit Union), and Karen Stirling (NEAMA) — all past NEAMA Board Presidents — shared best practices in collections and compliance.

A key message from the panel: no matter your credit union’s size, always stay up to date with state regulations before beginning any collections process. They encouraged attendees to use all available resources, including CCUA, NEAMA, and legal counsel.
Another big takeaway was the value of early intervention. Offering members flexible options, such as deferred or adjusted payments, can make a real difference in helping them get back on track.
The Chapter also extends a big thank you to Lee Brookfield of St. Anne’s Credit Union, who is stepping down as Chapter President after several years of dedicated leadership. Congratulations to Nelson Tavares of Taunton Federal Credit Union, who will serve as the next Chapter President. The Chapter looks forward to continuing its success under Nelson and the board’s leadership.
