Southern MA Chapter Credit Unions Unite to Support A Bed for Every Child

On the morning of Saturday, March 22nd, credit unions from the Southern MA Chapter, along with Tremont Credit Union, came together at All Washed Up in Taunton, MA, to build 30 beds for the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless’ A Bed for Every Child initiative. This annual event saw over 70 dedicated volunteers assembling beds for children in need, ensuring they have a safe and comfortable place to sleep.

Tina Baptista kicked off the event by welcoming the growing crowd and expressing gratitude to all the credit unions in attendance for their ongoing support and hard work. A Bed for Every Child donated 1,988 beds to children last year, a feat made possible by events like this. Tina commended the credit unions for their generosity and commitment to the cause.

The workshop quickly filled with the sounds of sanding, screw guns, and laughter as volunteers worked in teams of two or three to construct the beds. Those who finished early jumped in to help others, embodying the true spirit of cooperation. Along with the beds, donations of books, bedding, and stuffed animals were collected to accompany each child’s new sleeping space.

By the end of the morning, 30 new beds were ready for distribution, and volunteers shared a well-earned lunch, reflecting on their collective achievement.

The Southern MA Chapter extends its heartfelt thanks to All Washed Up in Taunton for generously donating the space, PCT FCU for sponsoring breakfast, and all the volunteers who dedicated their time and effort to this meaningful cause. Special appreciation goes to the Chapter Board and Lee Brookfield of St. Anne’s Credit Union for organizing another successful event.
