Somerset Federal Credit Union Celebrates 90 Years of Serving Members and Strengthening the Community

Somerset Federal Credit Union (SFCU) is proud to celebrate its 90th anniversary, marking nine decades of commitment to its members, employees, and the communities it serves.

Founded in 1936, Somerset Federal Credit Union began with a mission rooted in the credit union philosophy of “people helping people.” Over the past 90 years, the Credit Union has grown and evolved while remaining committed to providing personalized financial solutions, supporting members through every stage of life, and investing in the communities that have been part of its journey.

“Reaching our 90th anniversary is an incredible milestone, and one that would not have been possible without the trust and support of our members, the commitment of our employees, the dedication of our Board of Directors, and the partnership of our community,” said Joseph Lajoie, President & CEO of SFCU. “For 90 years, we have been honored to be part of our members’ stories, and we look forward to continuing to serve and support our communities for generations to come.”

Throughout 2026, SFCU is celebrating this milestone by recognizing the people who have helped shape its history — including generations of members, employees, volunteers, and its Board of Directors — while continuing its commitment to community involvement through member appreciation activities, charitable initiatives, financial education, and local partnerships.

As part of its 90th anniversary recognition, SFCU was honored to receive three citations acknowledging this significant milestone: one from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Senate, one from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts House of Representatives, and one from the Town of Somerset. These recognitions celebrate the credit union’s longstanding commitment to serving its members and making a positive impact in the community.

“Receiving these citations is a tremendous honor and a reflection of the many individuals who have contributed to our story over the past 90 years,” said Joseph Lajoie.  “While we are proud of our history, we remain focused on the future and continuing to provide the exceptional service and support our members have come to expect.”
