REHOBOTH, MA — Rhode Island's credit unions raised and presented $100,000 to Special Olympics Rhode Island during the annual Credit Unions of Rhode Island Charity Golf Tournament, held July 20 at Crestwood Country Club in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. The event brought together credit unions, community partners, and Special Olympics athletes for a day of friendly competition, networking, and fundraising. Tournament proceeds totaled $50,000, contributing to the $100,000 donation in support of Special Olympics Rhode Island's 2025-2026 fundraising year.

One of the highlights of the event was a spirited putting contest featuring Special Olympics Rhode Island athletes and tournament participants. The friendly competition, shared laughter, and camaraderie reflected the true spirit of the day.

Following the tournament, guests gathered for lunch, networking, and a program celebrating the impact of their collective efforts. David Dupéré, President and CEO of Wave Federal Credit Union and Social Responsibility Chair, welcomed attendees and thanked the credit unions, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who made the event possible.

“The collective dedication, commitment, and selfless volunteerism of our Rhode Island credit union community culminated in a remarkable $100,000 donation to Special Olympics Rhode Island (SORI) this year. Over the past 29 years, SORI and their incredible athletes have become a deeply cherished part of our credit union family. We feel truly blessed by their presence in our lives.”

“The athletes' courage and joy continuously inspire our commitment to their efforts, and their heartfelt appreciation fills us with pride. These great achievements over the years are a direct result of the hard work and immense generosity of our Rhode Island credit unions and their members.”

“As we all know, this gift does so much more than just fund programs. It directly empowers our Rhode Island athletes, builds lifelong confidence, and fosters vital community inclusion.”

He also shared inspiring stories from the Special Olympics USA Games, highlighting the life-changing opportunities made possible through the generosity and volunteerism of the credit union community.

"We could not be more grateful for the incredible support of the Credit Unions of Rhode Island. Because of CURI’s generosity and commitment, athletes and families across our state can experience the life-changing power of sport, Olympic competition, and inclusive programming at no cost.”

“CURI’s unwavering partnership and steadfast commitment to acceptance, respect, and inclusion are making a meaningful difference in the lives of thousands of Rhode Islanders. We are proud to have them alongside us in creating a more inclusive community where everyone has the opportunity to belong, participate, and thrive. Thank you, CURI, for helping make these opportunities possible."

The event concluded with a silent auction and a special check presentation. Together, Rhode Island's credit unions proudly presented $100,000 to Special Olympics Rhode Island in support of the organization's 2025-2026 fundraising year.

A heartfelt thank you to the sponsors, credit unions, volunteers, partners, and golfers whose generosity and dedication made this year's tournament such a tremendous success. Their support continues to create opportunities for Special Olympics athletes throughout Rhode Island, and this achievement would not have been possible without the collective efforts of the credit union community.
