Golfers gathered on June 11 at Candia Woods Golf Links in Candia, NH, for the annual Richard D. Mahoney Charity Golf Tournament, a day dedicated to supporting Make-A-Wish New Hampshire and celebrating the organization's 40th anniversary.
During the event, New Hampshire credit unions presented Make-A-Wish New Hampshire with a check for $200,000 for the 2025-2026 fundraising year. With this latest contribution, New Hampshire credit unions have now raised more than $4.2 million for Make-A-Wish NH during their 30-year partnership.
This remarkable milestone reflects the ongoing commitment of credit unions and their partners to helping grant life-changing wishes for children diagnosed with critical illnesses.
The tournament featured special guests Reed, his sister Zoe, and their mother, along with wish child Harlow and her mother. Harlow and her family hosted a lemonade stand during the event, raising additional funds to help make wishes come true for other children. Their presence served as a powerful reminder of the impact this partnership has on local families.
Reed's wish was granted earlier this year at Breakfast for Wishes, where he received two Scottish Highland cows—his beloved "fluffy cows"—which he now cares for every day. Harlow's wish took her and her family to Walt Disney World, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
As the day concluded, golfers and supporters gathered to reflect on the tremendous impact the credit union community has made over the years. Harlow's mother, Kaylee, shared her family's journey and spoke about the profound difference Harlow's wish made in their lives. She expressed gratitude to the credit unions and sponsors whose generosity continues to bring joy and hope to children and families across New Hampshire.
This year's event was also marked by two significant retirements. Brian Hughes, President/CEO of HRCU, and Julie Baron, President/CEO of Make-A-Wish New Hampshire, recently announced their plans to retire. Both were recognized by the New Hampshire Social Responsibility Committee and Make-A-Wish NH staff for their years of leadership and dedication to strengthening the partnership between the credit union movement and Make-A-Wish.
Hughes also announced that he will step down as Chair of the New Hampshire Social Responsibility Committee. Lana Dal Molin, VP of Community Outreach and Sales at Triangle Credit Union, will assume the role as incoming committee chair.
While friendly competition took place on the course, the true winners of the day were the children whose wishes will be granted through the generosity of participating credit unions, sponsors, and supporters. Their commitment ensures that more life-changing wishes will become reality for children and families throughout the state.
The golf tournament itself featured a dramatic finish, with a tie for first place requiring officials to use scores from the nine most difficult holes to determine the winner.
The first-place team included Tom McGregor, Kyle Schneck, Bill Stevens, and Randy Sivigny of St. Mary's Bank.
Mark your calendars for next year's Richard D. Mahoney Charity Golf Tournament, scheduled for June 10, 2027.
The New Hampshire Social Responsibility Committee extends its sincere thanks to the credit unions, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who have helped make this partnership with Make-A-Wish New Hampshire such a lasting success.
