Massachusetts Credit Unions and their business partners gathered on June 17th for the 8th Annual Stephen D. Jones Credit Union Charity Golf Tournament at Sterling National Country Club. With a strong turnout of 100 golfers, the event raised an impressive $100,000 to benefit A Bed for Every Child, an initiative of the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless.
Golfers enjoyed a beautiful day on the hilly, tree-lined course, filled with signature tournament traditions and new highlights. Among the most memorable additions was the “Break the Glass” challenge on Hole 15, where each golfer had three chances to shatter a pane of glass. Brian McGuirk from Strategic Resource Management was the first to do so, and by the end of the day, 19 golfers succeeded. Those who broke the glass were entered into a raffle, with Chris Gortzig of Metro Credit Union and Jack McCabe of St. Mary’s Credit Union winning prizes including Oakley sunglasses and a speaker.
The day concluded with an awards reception emceed by Charlene Bauer, Social Responsibility Committee Chair from Metro Credit Union. Alison Hughes of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union shared heartfelt remarks about Steve Jones and his enduring commitment to the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. CCUA President/CEO Ronald McLean expressed deep appreciation to all participating credit unions and supporters for helping provide comfort and stability to children in need.
For the first time, the event also featured a live auction led by Tina Baptista, Director at the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless. Auction items included sponsorship opportunities in a new children’s savings-themed coloring book, Red Sox tickets, and a Sterling National foursome.
A highlight of the day was the formal check presentation, where members of the Social Responsibility Committee and CCUA President/CEO Ronald McLean presented a $100,000 donation to Tina Baptista of A Bed for Every Child.
Congratulations to the 2025 First Place Team from St. Mary’s Credit Union: Jim Petkewich, Maura Navin, Jack McCabe, and Jack Sullivan.
In addition to this successful tournament, Massachusetts Credit Unions continue to support the Coalition through their annual Gift of Warmth and book drives—further exemplifying their commitment to community and social responsibility.
