Help Give Every Child a Bed of Their Own

Every child deserves the resources needed to fall asleep safely, keep warm and cozy, and especially a place to dream. A bed is just that resource, but sadly most low-income households cannot meet the growing needs of their children, including having the financial ability to purchase a bed which far too many children in Massachusetts communities are living without. Children that get a good night’s sleep achieve higher in math, science, and reading, and that lack of sleep has the same impact on children as lacking basic nutrition.

A Bed for Every Child’s mission is to deliver dreams to children one bed at a time, to ensure every child has a place to sleep regardless of their family’s income. They not only provide the material items children need but also educate parents on healthy sleep habits. With program participation not only do children receive 5 age-appropriate books but parents/caregivers receive a “Build a Better Bedtime” booklet containing information about healthy sleep habits. Parents/caregivers learn how sleep impacts important developmental functions including cognitive and motor skills, mood, attention, and memory.

We are asking for your help to make the dream of every child having a bed of their own a reality. Your continued support of A Bed for Every Child, an initiative of the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless, will help deliver beds to children residing in communities with predominant rates of poverty, and lack of access to basic services.

Through the collective power and spirit of the Massachusetts Credit Unions, children living in poverty are getting a restful night’s sleep after receiving a bed. A Bed for Every Child is the only local resource that has an operational structure that allows children to receive a bed of their own directly to their homes. The program not only provides a bed but also other essential items that children need to have a good night’s sleep and to positively change their school success, including seasonal-appropriate clothing and books of their own children can use to do homework, learn and dream of a more prosperous future! In the fiscal year 2025, over 2,000 beds were provided to children across 130 communities in Massachusetts.
