Harvard University Employees Credit Union Announces Charter Conversion and Name Change

The Harvard University Employees Credit Union (HUECU) announced that it will be converting from a state charter to a federal charter. The announcement follows certification by the National Credit Union Administration and a vote by the Credit Union membership, the results of which were shared at a Special Meeting of HUECU members on March 26, 2024. As a result of the charter change, the Credit Union’s new name will be Harvard Federal Credit Union (Harvard FCU).

“I am delighted to confirm that our members have resoundingly voted to move the Credit Union into our next chapter,” said Craig Leonard, HUECU’s President and CEO.  “With this directive, we are looking forward to our next phase of growth, driven by enhanced service offerings and the greater strategic flexibility we will have under a federal charter. The new name also better reflects who we serve, which has grown beyond just the employees of Harvard, to include students, alumni, and the employees of affiliated teaching hospitals, among other eligible groups.”

The Credit Union will unveil a new logo and begin operating under its new name on June 3, 2024.
