Young professionals are redefining leadership and shaping the next era of our movement.

If you want to know why the future of credit unions is brighter than ever, spend a day in a room with 200 young professionals who are redefining what leadership looks like.

Earlier this month, CCUA hosted its 3rd annual Young Professionals Summit at Bentley University in Waltham, MA. While some of us have long since graduated from the “young professional” category, attending in support of our member credit unions revealed something remarkable: this wasn’t just another familiar conference experience. What emerged was a powerful reminder of the strength, passion, and commitment driving the next generation of credit union leaders.

Unlike most professional events where laptops and phones steal attention, this audience was fully present. Out of nearly 200 attendees, only three laptops appeared — used for note-taking, not Zoom calls or inbox management. Distractions were set aside. Engagement was the norm.

And when it came time to participate, there was no hesitation. Instead of the awkward silence that often follows an invitation for questions, hands went up, lines formed at the mic, and discussions spilled beyond the program schedule. These young leaders didn’t just attend the Summit — they showed up ready to engage, challenge ideas, and contribute to the conversation.

The energy in the room reflected a clear pattern:

  • Engaged: They focused with intent, demonstrating a rare level of presence.
  • Fearless: They raised their voices, shared ideas, and asked questions without hesitation.
  • Collaborative: They worked together, building on one another’s perspectives.

For today’s credit union leaders, the responsibility is clear: create space for this generation’s voices, invite their perspectives, and ensure their ideas help guide our future.

The Summit at Bentley University was more than an event. It was a glimpse of what’s ahead. These young professionals are ready to carry forward the values of collaboration, innovation, and member-first service — and they’re bringing the passion to elevate them even further.

The future’s not just bright. It’s brilliant.
