First Responders Credit Union Announces Merger with Lynn Firemen’s Federal Credit Union

Shared history serving first responders guides plans to join the two credit unions

LogoFirst Responders Credit Union announced that Lynn Firemen’s Federal Credit Union will join its organization and operations. The two credit unions will unite forces to better serve their members, who are first responders and their families across Massachusetts.

Both organizations were founded on the premise that people who understand the work of firefighters should be the same individuals to walk alongside them in their financial lives. Those beliefs have held true for more than 80 years at First Responders Credit Union and 90 years at Lynn Firemen’s Federal Credit Union, and this shared purpose will continue to drive the organization forward.

“The opportunity to expand First Responders Credit Union’s support for firefighters, while making our credit union stronger for the members we already serve, makes this a seamless unification of two strong organizations,” said Danielle Milner, President & CEO of First Responders Credit Union. “Our credit unions share a common history and shared belief that first responders deserve an organization dedicated to the unique needs of them and their families. Coming together with Lynn Firemen’s Federal Credit Union will preserve the highest levels of service to our firefighter communities while strengthening the resources available to them.”

An anticipated effective date of the merger is expected in March 2027, pending member and regulatory approvals. Together, the combined organization will serve about 13,500 members and manage about $470 million in assets, with additional resources supporting continued technology and service improvements. First Responders Credit Union will now serve members at two branches at the existing locations of each entity in Dorchester and Lynn. The employees at both organizations will also be retained.

“Lynn Firemen’s Federal Credit Union has proudly served firefighters in Boston’s North Shore for more than ninety years,” said CJ Gheringhelli, Board Chairman of the Lynn Firemen’s Federal Credit Union. “Our goal has always been to take care of those who serve. Now our two organizations will be stronger together and ensure that members have expanded access to the financial technology, products, and support they need, while maintaining the values and priorities that have historically supported Massachusetts’ firefighting communities.”

First Responders Credit Union and Lynn Firemen’s Federal Credit Union will remain in communication with their members and financial partners as they finalize the joining of operations. Frequently asked questions and updates will be available at FirstRespondersCU.org and LynnFFCU.com.

First Responders Credit Union remains committed to exclusively serving the first responder community and shaping a stronger financial future to support them.
