Credit Unions of Rhode Island Raise $85,000 for Special Olympics!

On Monday, July 14, the Credit Unions of Rhode Island came together with business partners for a perfect day of golf and giving at Crestwood Country Club in Rehoboth, MA. The annual Charity Golf Tournament raised $27,000—bringing the total for the 2024/2025 fundraising season to an incredible $85,000 in support of Special Olympics Rhode Island.

The day concluded on a high note, with laughter and camaraderie on the patio overlooking the scenic course. The event was made even more memorable as we honored two extraordinary individuals:

  • Donna Gregson, retiring after more than 40 years with Coastal1 Credit Union, was recognized for her dedication to both the credit union movement and Special Olympics Rhode Island.
  • Mike Luca, a longtime Special Olympics Rhode Island athlete, employee, and cherished ambassador to the credit unions for over 20 years, was celebrated as he retires from his official roles. Mike has been a familiar and beloved face at countless credit union fundraising events and has left a lasting impact on our community.

We wish Donna and Mike all the best in their next chapters and thank them for the joy, commitment, and heart they’ve shared with all of us.

A big congratulations to this year’s tournament champions from Ocean State Credit Union: Mike Garvey, Mike Freeman, Peter Sullivan, and Paul Raida!

To our sponsors, credit unions, and volunteers—thank you. Your continued generosity and support make events like this possible, and together, we are making a difference.

We look forward to seeing you next year!
