On Monday, July 20, the Credit Unions of Rhode Island, valued partners, and Special Olympics Rhode Island athletes gathered at Crestwood Country Club in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, for the annual Charity Golf Tournament benefiting Special Olympics Rhode Island. Thanks to the generosity and support of everyone involved, the tournament raised an impressive $50,000.
One of the highlights of the event was a spirited putting contest featuring Special Olympics Rhode Island athletes and tournament participants. The friendly competition, shared laughter, and camaraderie reflected the true spirit of the day.
Following the tournament, guests gathered for lunch, networking, and a program celebrating the impact of their collective efforts. David Dupéré, President and CEO of Wave Federal Credit Union and a member of the Rhode Island Social Responsibility Committee, welcomed attendees and thanked the credit unions, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who made the event possible.
David then introduced Ed Pacheco, President and CEO of Special Olympics Rhode Island, who expressed his appreciation for the longstanding partnership with Rhode Island's credit unions and community partners. He also shared inspiring stories from the Special Olympics USA Games, highlighting the life-changing opportunities made possible through the generosity and volunteerism of the credit union community.
The event concluded with a silent auction and a special check presentation. Together, Rhode Island's credit unions proudly presented $100,000 to Special Olympics Rhode Island in support of the organization's 2025-2026 fundraising year.
A heartfelt thank you to our sponsors, credit unions, volunteers, partners, and golfers for making this event such a tremendous success. Your generosity and dedication help create opportunities for Special Olympics athletes throughout Rhode Island, and this achievement would not have been possible without your support.
