The Cooperative Credit Union Association is pleased to share that S.522, the Credit Union Board Modernization Act, has been filed in the U.S. Senate with key support and co-sponsorship from Delaware Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester.
This legislation would allow federal credit union boards in good standing to meet every other month instead of monthly, reducing regulatory burdens while enhancing board engagement—without compromising safety and soundness.
Earlier this year, the advocacy team met with members of our four state delegations. We met with Senator Warren (D-MA), the ranking member of Senate Banking, and with Senator Blunt Rochester (D-DE), the new member of Senate Banking. Thanks to CCUA’s strategic advocacy, we successfully secured key support and co-sponsorship for this bill—driving its momentum in Congress. With a parallel measure that advanced in the House of Representatives by voice vote, this legislation is on a strong path forward.
Just last week, CCUA’s Director of Advocacy, Jessica Avery, worked diligently to draft testimony on behalf of multiple Delaware credit unions. Senator Blunt Rochester will submit this testimony for the record—further solidifying CCUA’s role in shaping national policy.
As we move forward, we remain committed to working with CCUA’s four-state delegation to help pass this crucial legislation.
