Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant reports directly to the CFO and performs a variety of accounting, compliance and administrative functions. Assists in overseeing and directing the ongoing activities of the accounting department in conformance with established Credit Union policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Performs functions, within scope of authority and expertise, to provide the highest level of service and responsiveness to members served by the Credit Union.

  • Assists with the preparation various financial statements and/or reports regarding various regulatory, managerial, and internal reports on a scheduled and as needed basis (i.e., Quarterly Call Report, CECL, etc.).
  • Reconcile the Investment Portfolio to all safe keeping institutions.
  • Prepares general ledger reconciliations on a monthly basis, resolves any inaccuracies or imbalances. 
  • Provides support and assistance to Accounting with audit and regulatory examinations, as needed.
  • Assists with the monthly balance sheet audit, insuring that all-subsidiary ledgers adequately supports the general ledger.
  • Assist the Accountant in evaluating adequacy of Allowance for Loan Loss accounts monthly and recommends appropriate action to keep that account funded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. 
  • Manages Accounts receivable and payable insuring prompt payment of properly authorized invoices.
  • Assists in reconciling Wires, ACH, Share-draft, ATM and checks. 
  • Adheres to all American Spirit FCU policies and procedures. Responsible for compliance with the following regulations: BSA, OFAC, and other regulations as required.
  • Prepare monthly management and board reports.
  • Serve as a backup when the Accountant is out of the office. 
  • Provides backup to the Member Service/Teller.
  • Perform related accounting and administrative duties as assigned or requested

Education & Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent work experience.
  • Three to five years’ experience in related position, accounting or bookkeeping preferably within a financial institution or regulated industry.
  • Must be detailed oriented and have strong organizational, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, communicate effectively and lead a successful team. 
  • Ability to utilize various types of office equipment, including computer terminal. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and report writing software.
  • Ability to multitask and meet constant deadlines.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • This position will require travel - up to 5%
