Risk Management Examiner - Hybrid Position
Division of Banks, Boston, Lakeville, Woburn, or Springfield, MAThis role will be conducting financial safety and soundness examinations in Massachusetts state-chartered banks or credit unions.
Responsibilities
- Assess compliance with accounting practices and/or applicable laws and regulations
- Analyze financial statements, policies and procedures, and interview bank or credit union staff
- Participate in team examinations
- Gain knowledge of the examination areas
- Attend state and federal regulatory training programs
- Assist in the analysis of financial institutions by analyzing financial documents and reports; reviewing policies and procedures; performing data analysis to determine solvency; and assessing proper safeguards and internal controls, and conformance with generally accepted accounting principles and compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations.
- Analyze quarterly financial condition (call) reports, balance sheets and income statements; determine the impact of an institution’s loan and investment portfolios on its financial condition; identify asset and funding concentrations in accordance with regulatory guidance; and calculate ratios pertinent to an institution’s financial soundness for various rating system components.
- Assist in the preparation of sections of the Examination Report and detailed work papers in an accurate and timely manner. Confer with other state and federal agencies and audit/consulting firms as part of the examination process.
- Communicate examination findings with internal and external leadership/stakeholders, both orally and written. Participate in formal and on-the-job training.

- Experience in commercial banking or credit unions; accounting, auditing or consulting in the financial services industries.
- Familiarity with BSA/AML, trust, or information technology.
- Willing and able to travel throughout Massachusetts and travel out-of-state with some overnight stay (dependable way to travel to multiple sites around Massachusetts is required; driver’s license and access to a vehicle are recommended).
Qualifications
- Applicants must have (A) at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in accounting, auditing, or bank examining work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
- Incumbents are required to travel throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and travel out-of-state with some overnight stay.
Substitutions:
I. A Bachelors or higher degree with a major in accounting, business administration, business management, banking, finance, economics, or related field may be substituted for the required experience.*
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
