Head Teller

We are searching for a qualified Head Teller to be responsible for the daily operations of the teller line, ensuring efficient, accurate, and courteous service in accordance with established accounting policies and procedures. This role combines leadership, membership, and operational responsibilities. The Head Teller guides and supports teller staff while promoting credit union products and services, maintaining compliance, and upholding the high service standards expected by our member-focused institution.

Physical Demands 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use the hands to finger, handle, or feel/discern objects, tools, or controls, such as, but not limited to: cash and 10- key The employee is also required to talk and hear and is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift, and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Office environment within a secure branch setting. Standing for extended periods during teller hours. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Requirements

  • Supervise, control and support all teller staff in day-to-day operations, including scheduling, training, coaching, and performance management. Ensures a trained, motivated and professional staff, capable of providing efficient and effective member services while maintaining positive membership. Establishes performance expectations and monitors results. Recommends the discipline/discharge of member service staff, while maintaining required documentation. Train new tellers and provide ongoing mentoring and development.
  • Ensure teller line area is open and ready to conduct business each day and that all equipment is in proper working order.
  • Ensure that the branch balances all transactions at the close of each business day. May assist tellers and others to resolve adjustments. Authorizes adjustments.
  • Ensure operations comply with American Spirit’s policies, procedures, and federal regulations (e.g., BSA, Reg CC, Reg E). Responsible for training and updating Member Service Tellers in proper reporting, filing and maintaining records on Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) and Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs).
  • Handle complex member transactions, resolve escalated issues, and provide exceptional service that aligns with American Spirit’s mission.
  • Conduct periodic cash audits, vault balancing, and teller drawer verifications.
  • Maintain appropriate cash levels and security controls. Order and verify cash shipments weekly for lobby needs. Maintain accurate records of cash deposits and coin exchange with each proprietor.
  • Perform periodic reconcilement of money orders, gift cards, assisting in the general ledger balancing. Responsible for maintaining associated logs and inventory as needed.
  • Assist with branch reporting, reconciliation, and recordkeeping.
  • Promote American Spirit FCU products and services by identifying member needs and referring appropriate solutions.
  • Act as Branch Manager backup as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required and assigned.

Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a teller or customer service role, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of credit union/banking operations and compliance.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with core financial systems and MS Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.), computers and office machines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people.

Education & Experience

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or relevant coursework preferred.
  • Experience: Previous financial experience in cash management or teller area highly desire.
