Members Plus Annual Backpack Drive is well underway! This year, our team, with special thanks to our four summer interns from Everett High School, packed over 500 backpacks. These backpacks are filled with school supplies, along with water bottles, tissues, and hand sanitizer – everything young students need to be ready for their school year! The backpacks are distributed to students in the communities that MPCU serves.

“These backpacks make such an impact in our local communities,” says John J. Murphy, President and CEO of Members Plus, “which is emphasized by how enthusiastic the families are to receive them. Every year, we hear from the students that they are so happy to have their own backpacks, and how excited they are to start school because of them.”

The credit union has partnered with local schools, Boys and Girls Clubs, libraries, and YMCAs to ensure these backpacks reach the students and families who need them. These organizations are wonderful partners for our annual backpack drive, and we are very grateful for their help.

The funds for the backpacks and school supplies are generated from our members using the coin machines in the lobbies of the MPCU branches. The fee income from these machines is gathered from all the branches and used to fund the Backpack Drive.

This year we have surpassed the nearly 400 backpacks that MPCU donated last year, and we are very proud to support our community with this project. It’s truly about People Helping People!
