Insights from Melissa Pomeroy, CCUA's EVP and Chief Operating Officer

Welcome to the second edition of the Cooperative Connection newsletter! As many prepare for a trip to DC, it’s a perfect time to reflect on the dedication of the credit union community—working tirelessly to ensure credit unions not only survive but thrive well into the future.

The financial landscape is shifting. Credit unions face an evolving regulatory environment, ongoing industry consolidation, and rapid technological advancements. Yet, through all of these changes, the core mission remains unchanged: “people helping people.” Since 1908 (shout-out to St. Mary’s Bank), credit unions have pledged to serve the underserved, and that commitment continues today.

However, meeting this mission in today’s world requires new tools and strategies. Fintech organizations and CUSOs have stepped in as critical partners, helping credit unions remain competitive, sustainable, and member-focused. These organizations are not just enhancing operations—they are transforming the way credit unions serve their communities.

This issue of Cooperative Connection focuses on fintech and CUSO partners that are advancing financial inclusion. Their innovations are making a real impact:

  • Enabling microloans for Gen Z members with little to no credit history
  • Empowering individuals with disabilities to make independent financial decisions
  • Helping seniors and their families navigate life’s financial challenges

These organizations are doing more than supporting credit unions—they are carrying forward the mission of the movement by ensuring that access to financial services remains equitable and inclusive.

Thanks for reading, and see you in DC! (And don’t forget comfortable shoes!)
