Responsibilities

Reporting to the VP, Education & Consumer Lending, develops, implements, monitors and manages consumer loan origination and servicing, and credit card origination in accordance with established policies, goals and objectives. In collaboration with the VP, works on portfolio strategy, including program growth, profitability, risk management and member acquisition. Manages consumer lending team and vendor relationships. Responsible for identifying market and portfolio trends, areas for product and process improvement, and opportunities to enhance department operations and member and internal partner experience. 

  • Assists with setting department’s strategic direction to align with HUECU's business plan.
  • Ensures:
    • Implementation of target goals and helps establish and monitor department's annual budget.
    • Standard operating procedures and system functionality are current and compliant with policies and processing standards. Works closely with Business Applications. 
    • Project planning and implementation lead. Coordinates resources and collaborates with internal partners and project management teams to execute goals.
  • Manages:
    • Third-party vendor relationships with responsibility for associated services, system integrations, origination and serving systems. 
    • Client partnerships and contract requirements, including program development and implementation, loan origination, reporting and invoicing. 
    • Monitors program and product set-up and system configurations; ensures consistent delivery of functional, efficient, and member-centric processes. 
    • Supervises, hires, and trains staff. Responsible for coaching and performance management/review process. 
  • Establishes:
    • Processes and controls to mitigate and manage risk and ensure compliance with policies and regulatory requirements. Oversees internal, state, and federal audits, including, retrieving information and implementing corrective actions as recommended.
    • Retains, and updates policies, procedures, underwriting and servicing guidelines. 
  • Pipeline & Portfolio Management: 
    • Monitors pipeline, oversees and enhances queue management and application pull-through strategies, and maximizes system capabilities for loan origination and servicing. 
    • Performs regular portfolio analysis (account and product reviews, re-pricing, profitability, and risk analysis by product and combined portfolio). Provides Senior Management reports on consumer loan and credit card trends, portfolio growth, activity, profitability, and risk.
    • Leads, coordinates and participates on cross-functional teams with shared responsibility for consumer loan and credit card programs to ensure seamless product initiation and servicing. 
    • Ensures that program and member issues are properly resolved through effective resource management and internal collaboration and maintains service recovery process. 
  • Product Development:
    • With the VP, Education & Consumer Lending and Marketing team, oversees new consumer loan and credit card product development and promotional activities to achieve business plan sales and revenue goals.
    • Manages new product development process by forming and participating on cross functional teams, conducting development of business cases, implementing plans, and addressing legal and compliance issues. 
    • Collaborates with Marketing to perform market research and analyze portfolio metrics to ensure products retain appropriate value proposition and benefits. Contributes to initiatives that generate program growth, profitability, new enrollment and program utilization.
  • Additional Duties:
    • With Training department, coordinates staff training assessment, development, and execution. 
    • Partners with Collections and Credit Card Servicing to ensure seamless application and repayment process, resolves issues, and sustains overall health of the portfolio. 
    • Other functions as assigned or requested.

Requirements/Skills Needed

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong understanding of state and federal banking statutes and compliance requirements.
  • Must be able to work in the very diverse environment of Harvard University and affiliate organizations.
  • Excellent management, planning, interpersonal, communication and writing skills.
  • Highly motivated and the ability to work with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Preferred knowledge of Meridian Link loan origination system, and/or Fiserv DNA banking system.
