Preserving the mission of financial inclusion across all communities

In today’s dynamic financial landscape, small credit unions remain the purest expression of the movement’s “people helping people” philosophy. These institutions—often serving rural areas, niche member groups, and historically underserved communities—extend equitable financial services where they’re needed most. But as the financial world evolves, so do the challenges small credit unions face: limited resources, technological demands, and increasing regulatory complexity.

The Cooperative Credit Union Association (CCUA) recognizes the critical role small credit unions play in advancing financial inclusion. Supporting their sustainability isn’t just a priority—it’s a mission. That’s why the Association partners with service providers that understand and support the unique needs of smaller institutions, helping to close the gap in access to modern tools and systems.

At the center of this effort is CCUA’s Impact Grant program, which provides funding for eligible credit unions to access key products and services from vetted partners. These offerings help small credit unions strengthen compliance, adopt new technology, and expand service capabilities—without straining already-tight budgets.

Collaboration is essential. By cultivating relationships with vendors committed to scaling solutions, CCUA ensures every credit union—regardless of size—can remain competitive, resilient, and responsive to member needs.

As the industry continues to adapt to technological shifts and rising expectations, CCUA is committed to empowering small credit unions so they can remain the vital anchors of trust, access, and opportunity in the communities they serve.
