General Summary:
Working directly with the CFO on various accounting projects and issues, the accountant will provide support for all aspects of day-to-day financial processing. This position is responsible for the accounting operations of the credit union, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the credit union’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:
• Reconcile General Ledger daily, monthly, and quarterly
• Responsible for Prepaid and Fixed Asset depreciation on a monthly basis
• Monthly reconciliation of investment portfolio including post and reconcile subsidiary records for the accrued income from investment account and post monthly interest
• Prepare monthly accruals for the credit union
• Oversee or administer abandoned property procedure including state reporting
• Prepare, report and review quarterly 5300 NCUA report to ensure accuracy, track trends in operational expenses as well as investment and delinquency within the credit union
• Prepare monthly closing entries and financial reports for management and board
• Track and post payroll including 401k deposits, Workers Compensation and DE State Disability insurance
• Review and approve bills for accuracy before being paid
• Review and approve entries from accounting assistant(s) and post to General Ledger
• Maintain an effective program for the retention and timely destruction of credit union records
• Liaison between credit union and external auditors and examiners
• Monitor all Federal Reserve and Share Branch adjustments
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements/Skills Needed

• BS/BA and 3+ years of relevant experience or associate degree and 5+ years of relevant experience
• Business office experience in a bank &/or credit union strongly preferred
• Experience in supporting back-office payments systems required
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong computer skills and a good understanding of an overall computer environment are required. Experience with Excel and MS Word preferred
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
• Excellent customer service skills required
