A proven pathway out of homelessness is to ensure children of low-income families receive an education that will allow them to graduate from high school. To do this, these children need the tools to succeed. One of these tools is a bed.

NCUA Addresses 4 Areas Affected by the Passage of S.2155

The National Credit Union Administration posted an FAQ page on Tuesday to address the impact of the passage of the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act (EGRRCPA, S.2155) on credit unions. The FAQs focus on changes in four areas made by the law: business lending to members, appraisals, exemptions from the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA), and other changes applicable to credit unions. Credit unions should be aware of the changes, particularly those “major changes in the areas of member business lending, appraisals, and the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act.”

H.R. 1151 – 20 Years Later

August 7 marked the 20th anniversary of the signing into law of H.R. 1151 – The Credit Union Membership Access Act – by President Bill Clinton. The controversial law legalized the right of credit unions to welcome members from multiple groups instead of a single group. While that may not sound like a big deal to newcomers to the industry today, Aug. 7, 1998 marked the culmination of a do-or-die battle for the movement.

US Jobs Gain Modest in July; Unemployment Rate Drops to 3.9%

Hiring slowed in July, though the unemployment rate fell to 3.9%, as the U.S. economy continued to deliver solid performance despite concerns about ongoing trade tensions. Companies added 157,000 jobs in July, lower than a consensus estimate of 190,000 from Econoday, but pushing the unemployment rate down to 3.9% from 4% in June, the U.S. Labor Department said in its Aug. 3 report.
