RI Credit Unions Receive an Entrepreneurship Challenge Update from the Lt. Gov.

Governor Sabina Matos and CCUA President/CEO Ron McLean hosted representatives from the Credit Unions of Rhode Island yesterday during a Zoom conference call to receive a briefing on the status of the Lt. Governor’s 2022 Entrepreneurship Challenge. The Credit Unions of Rhode Island are the principal financial sponsors of the Challenge, helping to fund scholarships through their support of CCUA’s Better Values-Better Banking initiatives.

Members First Credit Union Headquarters Recognized for Construction Excellence

The publication awarded construction manager Sullivan Construction the Excellence in Design/Build Award for the tremendous job they did in constructing the facility located at 7 Salmon Street in Manchester.

Lt. Governor Matos Launches the 2022 Rhode Island Entrepreneurship Challenge

Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos kicked off Rhode Island’s fourth Lieutenant Governor’s Entrepreneurship Challenge last week, a business pitch competition aimed at high school students across the state. In addition to helping students learn about the process of writing and pitching a business proposal, the competition will also award more than $10,000 in postsecondary scholarships.

EasCorp Launches Pioneering Instant Payments Academy

Eastern Corporate Federal Credit Union (EasCorp) recently announced EasCorp’s Instant Payments Academy designed to prepare credit unions for FedNow℠ and instant payments.

The Instant Payments Academy offers a series of educational sessions to better enable credit unions to participate in instant payments through the FedNow service. Open to EasCorp and Vertifi Software’s more than 600 service users at no charge, each session covers different topics to guide a credit union’s instant payments journey.

HUECU Opens New Branch in Longwood Medical Area

The new street-level location is replacing the previous branch located inside the T. H. Chan Harvard School of Public Health, which was forced to close during the COVID pandemic.

People’s Credit Union Holds Community Winter Coat Drive

People’s Credit Union is holding a community winter coat drive in partnership with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center (MLKCC) from now until Monday, November 21st. The credit union is accepting new or slightly used cold weather coats and accessories for adults and children to be distributed to families in need. MVCU Donates $30,000 to Haverhill’s Emmaus, INC.

On Thursday, Nov. 3, Merrimack Valley Credit Union (MVCU) donated $30,000 to Emmaus, Inc., a homeless shelter in Haverhill, MA. This annual donation is a continuation of the support MVCU has provided the non-profit since 1994. MVCU is Emmaus' longest running and largest corporate partner, contributing over $500,000 to the non-profit over nearly three decades.

McLean Submits Comments on U.S. Treasury Request for Digital Assets AML/CFT

Kathleen C. Orovitz Officially Assumes Duties as President / CEO at Navigant Credit Union

Kathleen C. Orovitz has officially assumed the role as Navigant Credit Union’s President and Chief Executive Officer. Navigant Credit Union’s Board of Directors unanimously selected Orovitz in August as the successor to former President/CEO Gary E. Furtado, who announced his plans to retire in early May. Furtado’s last day at Navigant Credit Union was Monday, October 31, marking the conclusion of his 44-year career at the credit union.

Naveo Credit Union Announces Four Scholarship Opportunities for the 2023-2024 Academic Year

Naveo Credit Union announced it would offer four scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year. Naveo is offering three scholarships of $1,500 each through the Carlos Faria & Victor Da Silva Memorial Scholarship Fund and one scholarship of $3,000 through the John C. Feitor Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Scholarships were announced in November to coincide with National Scholarship Month.

Naveo Credit Union Raises Over $800 for Boston Children’s Hospital Through the Miracle Jeans Day Initiative

October 31, 2022

For the twelfth consecutive year, Naveo Credit Union participated in the Miracle Jeans Day initiative to raise funds for Boston Children’s Hospital, its local Miracle Network hospital. During the month of September, Naveo joined hundreds of organizations and raised funds from employees and members. Naveo then matched the employee donations for a total donation of over $800.
