Daisha Jackson, a senior at the Metropolitan Regional Career and Technical Center in Rhode Island, won first place and a $5,000 scholarship in the Lieutenant Governor’s Entrepreneurship Challenge, a business pitch competition for high school students. The Credit Unions of Rhode Island are the principal sponsor of the event, serving in that role since the program’s debut in 2018 under then Lt. Governor McKee.

A Bed for Every Child, an initiative of the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless, provided nearly 2,000 children new twin beds of their own in the past year. Due to the generosity and support of the Massachusetts Credit Unions, families have been given access to this life-changing resource which has had a positive impact on their children’s health, well-being, and education.

In April, the Harvard University Employees Credit Union launched the Volunteer Initiative Program (VIP) to help the local community and increase employee engagement. Since then, employees have leaped at the opportunity to volunteer their time to area non-profit organizations. This month, HUECU employee volunteers achieved a significant milestone. Collectively, they have donated over 200 VIP hours to the community.

For the first time in three years, more than 200 wish children and their families celebrated the holiday season with Make-A-Wish New Hampshire at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord, NH on Sunday, December 4. The annual Wish Family Holiday Reunion brings families together to enjoy an afternoon of reuniting with wish granters, volunteers and meeting new families. It was a wonderful celebration as everyone gathered in person.

Pioneer Valley Chapter of the Cooperative Credit Union Association, Inc. (CCUA), the Nation’s First Credit Union Chapter, held their first in-person meeting since before the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020. This year, in 2022, the event was held at the Castle of Knights located in Chicopee, MA. The Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless featured a special guest speaker in attendance.

McLean commented on NCUA’s proposed rule on Federal Credit Union Bylaws. CCUA supports the Board’s proposal implementing the Credit Union Governance Modernization Act of 2022’s provisions authorizing federal credit unions to expel members for cause based on a two-thirds majority vote of the credit union’s board of directors, with the opportunity for the member to request a virtual hearing. In addition, McLean recently submitted a comment letter to support the NCUA’s proposed revisions to the subordinated debt regulation to give low-income-designated credit unions (LICUs) greater flexibility to participate in the U.S. Treasury’s Emergency Capital Investment Program (ECIP) by extending the maximum term of subordinated debt investments to more than 20 years.

Governor’s 2022 Entrepreneurship Challenge. The Credit Unions of Rhode Island are the principal financial sponsors of the Challenge, helping to fund scholarships through their support of CCUA’s Better Values-Better Banking initiatives.

Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos kicked off Rhode Island’s fourth Lieutenant Governor’s Entrepreneurship Challenge last week, a business pitch competition aimed at high school students across the state. In addition to helping students learn about the process of writing and pitching a business proposal, the competition will also award more than $10,000 in postsecondary scholarships.

Not only was it a picture-perfect day with the weather but, it was also a day of smiles, more smiles, and even more smiles as 120 golfers representing New Hampshire Credit Unions and their business partners gathered together for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic more than 15 months ago to support the Annual Richard D. Mahoney Charity Golf Tournament held Thursday, June 10 at Candia Woods Golf Links, Candia, N.H. The “buzz” of the early morning wasn’t flying insects but instead, the conversations of so many people who genuinely were excited to see their friends and colleagues in person.

Leominster Credit Union (LCU) presented a check for $5,000 to the Campus Bound Program to benefit Leominster High School (LHS) students.
Since 2020, Campus Bound experts have provided free support to Leominster High School to help reduce the costs of college. Campus Bound is a team of experienced, passionate college counseling and financial aid professionals working with the Leominster High School Guidance Department to help families successfully navigate the financial aid process and other cost-reduction strategies on their road to higher education. This program is made possible through the sponsorship by Leominster Credit Union.
