Hike-the-Hill Program to Include Meetings with CFPB, NCUA and Legislative Reception

The Cooperative Credit Union Association, Inc. invites all member credit unions to participate in our annual Hike-the-Hill program to be held in Washington, DC and Alexandria, VA on September 18-19, 2019.

Agenda Update

The Association’s fall Hike-the-Hill event has been enhanced to provide members with greater flexibility and options to determine their own schedule while maximizing advocacy opportunities in our nation’s Capital.

This year’s Advocacy event will kick off with optional early bird sessions. Wednesday morning at 8:00 am a CUNA Issues Briefing will be held at Credit Union House, to open the dialogue. The briefing will be followed on site by a meeting with officials from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) at 9:30 AM. These meetings, held jointly with the Kentucky Credit Union League, are discretionary, space is limited, and reservations are required in advance.

After a CCUA welcome, President/CEO Ron McLean will host a buffet luncheon and an overview and updates on the program agenda and events, followed by legislative and regulatory briefings from CUNA staff tailored to our member states.  

Association staff are working to secure lawmakers’ attendance at a legislative reception, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm, at Credit Union House. Hill visits will be secured in the afternoon for those lawmakers that are not able to attend the reception. In addition, for members unable to attend the early morning meetings, Association staff are planning for an additional afternoon opportunity to interact with the CFPB – stay tuned for updates as the details are confirmed!

As in prior years for our Delaware members, the Association will be providing bus transportation for the day to and from DC on Wednesday for Hike-the-Hill attendees. Bus details will be released as soon as confirmed.

On September 19, regulatory advocacy continues at the National Credit Union Administration in Alexandria, VA., with the opportunity to attend the Open Board meeting, starting at 10:00 am. Following the board meeting, and lunch at nearby Joe Theismann’s Restaurant, the group is invited to attend a meeting with an NCUA Board Member. Be sure to note on your registration if you plan to attend these meetings!

Through these events, credit union leaders will have the opportunity for substantive conversations that will help shape the direction of legislative and regulatory proposals which will positively impact the future of the credit union movement.

Each credit union is responsible for its own travel, hotel accommodation arrangements and associated costs. For e your convenience, the Association has arranged a room block at the luxurious Capital Hilton, located at 1001 16th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20036, at the special price of $339.00 per night, plus 14.95% Tax. Reservation requests are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
