DCU Collection Drive Nets 2,600 Pairs of Socks

Digital Federal Credit Union (DCU) recently hosted a Sock Collection Drive at its 23 branch locations and three back offices. 1,600 pairs of socks were collected by community members and employees, with an additional 1,000 pairs matched by nonprofit partner, Operation Service. These 2,600 pairs of socks were distributed to 20 nonprofits throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Socks are one of the most requested items at homeless shelters. While many nonprofits regularly collect gently used clothes and shoes, socks are one of the most overlooked items. When it comes to the health of our neighbors in need, the care of a person’s feet has a direct impact on their overall health, wellbeing, and dignity.

“The socks donated to Second Chances support new beginnings for individuals and families in our community by providing empowering attire so they can face challenges with confidence.” said Andrea Shapiro, Second Chances Founder and CEO. “We value our partnership with DCU and appreciate programs such as the Sock Collection Drive that allow our neighbors to attend job training, interviews, and housing appointments in clothing that promotes self-esteem and wellbeing.”
