Credit Unions and Disabled American Veterans Team Up to Combat Elder Financial Abuse

Hanscom President/CEO David Sprague, Disabled American Veterans Jr. Vice Commander Debora Olson and CCUA’s Walt Laskos were the guests yesterday of Kyle Toto and John MacGillivray, hosts of the weekly WRKO radio program, Sound Off.

Their interview, recorded at WRKO’s Medford Studios, will air this Saturday at 5 pm at AM-680 on the radio dial. "Sound Off" is a weekly talk radio show produced by, for, and about veterans.

Yesterday’s interview called attention to the various financial frauds and scams that are making headlines today, as well as ways veterans, their caregivers and family members can protect themselves from becoming a victim. It also allowed Sprague, Olson and Laskos the opportunity to talk about an upcoming Lunch & Learn scheduled for June 3 at the Disabled American Veterans Hall, 788 Liberty St. in Braintree, from 11 am until 1 pm.

The mid-day event, hosted through a partnership of Hanscom FCU, Disabled American Veterans and Better Values-Better Banking, will host a panel discussion on elder financial exploitation, moderated by Barry Armstrong, host of a financial talk-show airing each weekday over the Financial Exchange Radio Network. Invited guests include Massachusetts Secretary of Veteran Affairs Francisco Urena; Lt Governor Karyn Polito; Congressman Stephen Lynch; Braintree Mayor Joseph Sullivan; and Massachusetts AARP Director Michael Festa.

More information about the June 3rd complimentary Lunch & Learn can be found at BetterValuesBetterBanking.com.
