Credit Union Tradition Continues to Showcase the Best at Rhode Island’s High School Basketball Playoffs
The credit union tradition continues this weekend, March 16 and 17, with the Rhode Island High School basketball playoffs at the University of Rhode Island's Ryan Center as the best of the best take the court for the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Credit Union Basketball Championships.
The Credit Unions of Rhode Island are once again proud to be the presenting sponsor of the playoffs, which started from the divisional rounds to the championships.
The Credit Unions of Rhode Island are featured under the banner of the Cooperative Credit Union Association’s (CCUA’s) consumer awareness campaign, Better Values- Better Banking. Both fans and players alike will see the consumer credit union brand logo everywhere throughout the two-day event!
Kicking off the two-day competition is the media press conference being held today at the Ryan Center starting at 10:30 a.m. where those in attendance will hear from RIIL dignitaries, coaches, CCUA Chairperson Ellen Ford, who is also Chairperson of the Credit Union Championships Committee. For those that cannot make the press conference and want to listen in, RIIL is streaming it live on Facebook Live.
Better Values - Better Banking – Credit Unions of Rhode Island have also partnered with the final four teams in a shoot-out competition during half-time of both championship games. This competition brings together a credit union representative, a student and an administrator from the schools represented in the final four as they compete for the highest points scored and the chance to win a scholarship for their school. This fun competition gets the crowd cheering as each team of three displays their talent on the court.
Another popular event on Sunday in between the girls’ and boys’ championship games is the Special Olympics Rhode Island Unified Basketball exhibition game starting at 5:00 pm. Unified sports combines people with intellectual disabilities and partners on sports teams for training and competition. Doing so helps to promote meaningful inclusion and acceptance for those with intellectual disabilities in the community and school settings. Special Olympics Rhode Island is the charity partner for the Credit Unions of Rhode Island and this makes another great opportunity to cheer on the amazing athletes from Special Olympics.
Dennis DeJesus, CEO of Special Olympics Rhode Island, discusses the value of the Special Olympics Rhode Island Unified Basketball exhibition game.
See you on Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17 (free parking is available), as Rhode Islanders cheer on their favorite teams! Joining together, the Credit Unions of Rhode Island: Better Values. Better Banking campaign will make this year's championships the best.
