2018 Awards of Excellence

The Cooperative Credit Union Association Awards of Excellence recognize CCUA-member credit unions for excelling in their efforts to advance the credit union industry and its cooperative business model by promoting a deeper awareness and knowledge of credit unions and financial literacy.

Credit unions nominated in the categories of Advocacy, Social Responsibility and Financial Education will be measured and judged by the degree of their commitment in these important areas of credit union life. The nominee scoring the highest number of points from among all credit unions nominated will be recognized as CCUA’s Credit Union of the Year.

CCUA’s Awards of Excellence also include recognition of young professionals within the credit union industry in addition to honoring one executive for making a lifetime of significant contributions to our industry.

Excellence in Advocacy

Advocacy promotes the interests of credit unions among its legislative, regulatory and consumer audiences. Engagement in advocacy takes many forms, from physically Hiking the Hill in Washington, D.C., and locally at each state’s capitol, to writing comment letters to regulators and to participation in state legislative meetings and regulatory forums.

Advocacy also extends to consumers. This outreach occurs through marketing and public relations efforts designed to promote awareness and knowledge of credit unions as demonstrated through innovative community programs, social engagement and advertising campaigns.

An Excellence in Advocacy Award will be offered to one credit union in each state that best demonstrates its commitment to advocacy.

Excellence in Social Responsibility

Social Responsibility is a fundamental characteristic of the cooperative business model. In accordance with that model and in support of its member credit unions and their efforts to give back to the communities they serve, the Association maintains a committee on Social Responsibility in each state. The purpose of the committee is to develop and manage a unified plan of action in support of social responsibility for that state, featuring programs and events that focus statewide efforts in support of the charity for the state, managed in a way that promotes the positive image of credit unions as well as the public's overall awareness of them.

Social responsibility involvement includes participation in committee initiatives, promotion of campaigns and contribution to the campaigns both monetarily and through volunteer efforts. It also is demonstrated by the credit union’s overall commitment to the community though its individual support of local causes and charities

An Excellence in Social Responsibility Award will be offered to one credit union in each state that best demonstrates its commitment to social responsibility.

Excellence in Financial Education

Helping member/owners and the all in the community improve their personal understanding and knowledge of financial management to achieve financial wellness is a core value of the credit union business model. The commitment to financial education can be expressed in a variety of ways, from producing training programs and hosting informational workshops covering an array of banking topics to sponsoring Reality Fairs for elementary and secondary school students.

An Excellence in Financial Education Award will be offered to one credit union in each state that best demonstrates its commitment to financial education.

Credit Union of the Year

The prestigious 2018  Credit Union of the Year Award will be determined by whichever credit union nominated in either the advocacy, social responsibility or financial education categories tallies up the most points from the judges from all others nominated.

Young Professionals

Today’s young credit union professionals are tomorrow’s industry leaders. To nurture support of these up and coming professionals and help fuel their drive to one day occupy the corner office, the Cooperative Credit Union Association calls upon all of its member credit unions to participate in recognizing their achievements.

An Award of Excellence will be offered to six (6) young professionals who best demonstrate, by their words and deeds, a commitment to the values and principles defining the credit union’s cooperative business model.

Lifetime Achievement

Each year, a number of credit union executives decide to close the chapter on their credit union careers by announcing plans to retire. For some, moving on will involve saying farewell to the corner office or the boardroom. For others, their farewell is marked by handing over responsibilities and sharing hugs with colleagues who have come to see them more as family than a co-worker.

No matter what their duties or leadership role has been, closing a chapter on a credit union career somehow gives everyone an opportune time to pause and acknowledge the contributions made during the course of that career.

Whether it’s recognition for inspirational leadership and bold decision-making, which resulted in organizational growth and improvement; personal dedication and commitment in delivering exemplary service to both members and co-workers alike; or voluntary contributions of countless time and energy that have enriched the lives of all within the industry, such achievements are a testament to a career worthy of the highest respect, honor and recognition.

A Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to one nominee demonstrating excellence in his or her contributions to the credit union.
