The Cooperative Credit Union Association has assembled a variety of  presenters with varying informed perspectives to discuss the current banking environment for cannabis-related businesses, including the Chair of the Commission of Cannabis Control in Massachusetts.

Steven Hoffman - Chairman,
Cannabis Control Commission, Commonwealth of Massachusetts

Chairman Steven J. Hoffman has extensive background in business and finance having served as a senior executive in the management consulting and technology industries.

In consulting, he was a Partner at Bain and Company where he led the firm’s 600 person Boston office and, as a Senior Vice President at CSC Index, he ran that firm’s Chicago office and was the world-wide leader of its strategy practice.  In the technology industry, Chairman Hoffman was an Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at Sapient. Most recently, he has been the CEO of two venture capital backed start-ups, ThinkFire, an Intellectual Property transactions firm, and Exchange Solutions, a technology-enabled marketing services company. In both cases, he replaced the founder and led successful turnarounds.   Chairman Hoffman is a frequent speaker on Corporate Strategy and Technology. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Wesleyan University and a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Statistics from the University of Chicago.

Tina Sbrega, President of Lighthouse Biz Solutions, LLC,

Tina M. Sbrega is the President of Lighthouse Biz Solutions, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of GFA Federal Credit Union, formed to serve the legal cannabis industry.  She previously served as President & CEO of GFA Federal Credit Union.   

Restricted by federal laws to secure banking services in federally insured financial institutions, legal cannabis businesses have been forced to conduct all transactions in cash. Recognizing the risks a cash-intensive business poses for public safety, in 2018 GFA Federal Credit Union Board made the decision to bring compliant banking services to legal cannabis operators and their employees.   As such, they were the first financial institution in MA to provide banking to both recreational and medicinal operators.  They are proud to be serving the cannabis industry and providing a turnkey banking solution to assist them in managing their legitimate businesses.

Ms. Sbrega is regarded as an innovative industry leader and an engaged member of the community, having served as a director to many non-profit organizations.  She is the recipient of numerous awards for both her innovative style and community leadership.   Ms. Sbrega earned her BSBA from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.

Tony Repanich, President/COO, Shield Compliance

Tony served as a community banker for 25 years and is a former Executive Vice President for Peoples Bank, a $1.5 billion community bank based in Washington State. He was responsible for all aspects of retail banking, mortgage lending, cash management, investment services, and corporate marketing. Under his leadership, the bank grew from less than $200 million in assets to its current size. Prior to joining Shield Compliance, Tony operated a consulting firm focused on cannabis banking and finance, community banking, and financial technology.

Dan Magoon – CEO, SBI Armor, LLC

A former U.S. Army Paratrooper with combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan, Dan spent the last decade building Massachusetts Fallen Heroes as a founding member and Executive Director.  Before entering the Security Industry, Magoon spent 11 Years as a Boston Firefighter. During his time at the BFD, Magoon held leadership positions on the Executive Board at the Boston Firefighters Local Union 718 and currently serves as Chairman of the Board at the Boston Firefighters Credit Union.  Magoon joined SBI in 2018.
