2023 Massachusetts Credit Unions Student Essay Contest
2023 Massachusetts Credit Unions Student Essay Contest
On behalf of the Cooperative Credit Union Association, we are pleased to announce the 2023 Massachusetts Credit Unions Student Essay Contest for seventh and eighth grade students, our 32nd year holding this annual contest.
Students in seventh and eighth grade are asked to write an essay in 250 words or less on the following topic:
"With the worst of it behind us, the world continues to adjust to a new normal in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. There have been many adjustments in the ways we work, the way we learn and the way we socialize as a result. Please discuss the changes in your own life that have become part of YOUR new normal…things you do differently now from the way you did them before Covid."
Eight winning essays will be chosen. The first prize winner will receive $500. The seven finalists will each receive $250. In addition to the eight winning essays, there will be several honorable mention winners who will each receive $50. There will be an awards ceremony to honor the contest winners in the spring.
The Massachusetts Student Essay Contest provides a unique opportunity for credit unions to demonstrate their involvement in their local community by reaching out to schools, families, and young people by engaging them in an educational activity that benefits all parties.
We invite each credit union to inform its membership of the contest. Additionally, we encourage each credit union to contact their local schools to suggest that the seventh and eighth grade students participate in the contest as a writing exercise.
The timeline for the contest is as follows:
September/October - essay contest announced to credit unions. Credit unions contact members and local schools to promote the contest.
November/December - Chapter Presidents remind credit unions about the essay contest at monthly Chapter meeting.
January 23, 2023 – Deadline for credit unions to collect essays from schools/members.
February 3, 2023 - Deadline for credit unions to submit top entries to their Chapter President.
February 24, 2023 - Deadline for Chapter Presidents to submit their top entries to the Association.
