CCUA Overview
While our historical roots run deep, we’re committed to continued growth on behalf of our members.
The Cooperative Credit Union Association (CCUA) represents credit unions in Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, empowering them, individually and collectively, to provide consumers with outstanding financial services.
And, as a member of CCUA, you’re part of a rich heritage that includes some of the oldest credit union trade groups in the United States.
But here’s the reality. At CCUA, we don’t focus on our heritage—as distinguished as it is.
Instead, we pour our energy into forward-thinking strategies to help our credit union members flourish, both now and in the years to come.

The Story Behind Our Credit Union Association
New England saw the rise of the first credit unions and credit union trade groups. And, while CCUA is the nation’s newest credit union trade group, we have a rich historical past from the three New England state leagues that formed our Association—one of which includes the oldest continually operating trade group in the United States.
CCUA recognizes the legacy of these state leagues and their role in founding our credit union association.
We’ve been enriched by the Massachusetts Credit Union League, which had a predecessor dating back to 1919—the first credit union trade group ever formed in the United States. We are also honored by the Credit Union Association of Rhode Island, which began serving credit unions in 1934, and the New Hampshire Credit Union League, which began in 1954.
In 2014, these organizations decided to unite together as the Cooperative Credit Union Association (CCUA), further strengthening their cooperative power.
It wasn’t long before Delaware’s credit unions became a part of CCUA’s story. In 2016, members of the Delaware Credit Union League voted unanimously to merge with CCUA.
While CCUA’s narrative will continue to unfold, our members can rest assured that we will continue the mission of our founding organizations and empower our members through advocacy efforts, compliance resources, and educational opportunities.
