2018 Career Achievement - Maurice D. Simard, Jr

Maurice D. Simard, Jr
Triangle Credit Union

It is with great honor that Triangle Credit Union submits Maurice D. Simard, Jr., CEO of Triangle Credit Union, for consideration to receive CUNA’s Award of Excellence Lifetime Achievement Award. On December 31, 2018, Maurice will retire and will be missed dearly by the Triangle team and our partners.

A resident of Manchester, New Hampshire for over 50 years, Maurice began his financial service career as a teller in 1973 at Saint Mary’s Bank where he quickly progressed to become a loan administrator, then Chief Operations Officer. Triangle welcomed Maurice as CEO on February 18, 1986 where he began overseeing $27 million dollars in assets, the operation of two branches, a work force of less than 10 employees, and over 5,400 members.

Throughout the thirty-two years in which Maurice has served as CEO, Triangle Credit Union has grown significantly to $670M in assets, nine branch locations in southern New Hampshire, a workforce of approximately 170 employees, and over 56,000 members.

At the time when Maurice joined Triangle, oil prices were in the midst of collapsing and US consumers were spending more than ever since the Great Depression. He would go on to lead Triangle through exciting and tremulous times in the marketplace over the next three decades, including the recession of 1990-1991, an economic boom from 1991-2001, the tech-bubble pop of 2000, and housing market collapse of 2008. Through his resilient, innovative, and strategic approaches, Maurice kept Triangle strong and profitable by supporting the development of new products and services to reflect changes in the marketplace and member needs.

Maurice is most proud of his ongoing volunteer commitments in serving New Hampshire communities, non-profits, and credit union affiliated groups. He served as chairman for TriCorp FCU (1996-2004) and the New Hampshire Credit Union League (1986-2014). In 2008, Maurice joined the World Council of Credit Unions where he currently advises the development committee and travels around the world to support  countries that are establishing their own credit unions. Locally, he serves as a member of the Credit Union National PAC NH, the finance committee for Bishop Guertin High School, and as a past board member and board chairman for the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua.

During the course of Maurice’s tenure as CEO, he has received numerous awards and recognition honoring his commitment to volunteerism. In 2008, he received the President’s Award from the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua, and later would receive their Man of the Year accolades in 2018. He was also named Citizen of the Year by the Salvation Army of Greater Nashua in 2013, and was presented with the CU Co-Op  Advocacy Award for the state of New Hampshire in 2016.

We thank you for considering Maurice D. Simard, Jr. as this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.
