The Drug Crisis
When Just Saying No is Just Not Enough

This issue stems from a 1996 Gallup Poll that indicated that “Americans believe drug abuse is one of the most serious problems facing the country, outweighing issues such as welfare, the federal deficit, and health care.”

One City presents three steps that must be taken to help alleviate this crisis:

1. stop calling our drug control policy a war,
2. the need for real political leadership that strives to help families escape the cycle of substance abuse related problems, and
3. citizen involvement and participation.

This issue of One City covers the many facets of drug abuse and its causes and effects. It also goes a step further to give recommendations on how we can more effectively defeat the growing problem of drugs in our neighborhoods.
