Lucretia A. Bailey Lucretia A. Bailey
President

“Lu” Bailey began her career with the Council seven years ago when she was hired as the Council’s vice president. She was soon promoted to executive vice president, acting president, and finally president.

As president, Lu is responsible for the entire fundraising budget, board development, marketing and membership development, program development, day-to-day management of the office, and implementing public relations strategies for the Council.

Under Lu’s guidance, the Council has launched new program initiatives in juvenile justice and public policy and race, as well as developed partnerships with civic groups, community-based organizations, and academic institutions to provide public education, research, advocacy and public policy analysis on/about critical urban issues.

Mary Miles Mary Miles
Business Manager

Mary Miles, the Council’s business and office manager, has been with the Council for over a decade. Miles started her career as the Council’s receptionist and assumed more responsibility as the Council evolved and expanded.

In 1996, Miles was promoted to her present position where she is responsible for the day-to-day business operations of the Council, including upkeep of the accounting, finance, and employee records.

Miles has two children and two grandchildren, is a Chicagoan and an active member of her church. She enjoys working with young people and reading mystery novels. Miles is also an expert seamstress.

Miles has credited the Council with broadening her outlook on life, and Miles says through the Council, she has met many of Chicago’s most interesting and influential citizens.

“I’ve met Mayor Richard M. Daley, former HUD Secretaries Jack Kemp and Henry Cisneros, to name a few,” said Miles. “I love my job because everyday is different and there’s always a new challenge and that’s why I look forward to each day at the Council.”
