One City

spring 1997
Spring 1997

Immigration:
The Browning of America

One City highlights the growth of the nation’s immigrant community—particularly immigrants of color—and the unique difficulties they face. In addition, One City focuses on the challenges cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and other large urban and regional settings face as the population shifts from predominantly white to black, brown and shades in between.

In an effort to develop an expansive public education campaign about the impact of public policy decisions on race relations, the Council and Human Relations Foundation of Chicago collaborated to copublish this issue of One City.
