ADA
Opening Doors for People with Disabilities

The Chicago Council on Urban Affairs chose to devote this entire issue of One City to a discussion of the challenges facing people with disabilities.

The 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act is a landmark civil rights law that directly protects at least 40 million Americans. Most of the advisory panel of this issue were people with disabilities, including people with hearing, visual and mobility impairments. This issue shows how the successful implementation of ADA can go a long way toward opening doors and providing access.
