The Chicago Council
on Urban Affairs was established in 1971 as a civic organization to work
with business, community, and government sectors to develop public policy
recommendations that improve the quality of life for those who live, work,
or play in Chicago.
The Councils
program focus is juvenile justice (reducing youth crime and reform of
the Juvenile Court) and public policy and race (developing policy initiatives
that employ racial/cultural diversity).
The Councils
supporters range from Fortune 500 companies to college students. Their
support helps the Council conduct research, provide workshops and forums,
publish urban affairs journals and magazines, maintain a web site, and
produce cable shows about urban affairs.
